Slovenia keen to import honey from Bangladesh

The European Union (EU) listed country Slovenia today expressed its keenness to import honey from Bangladesh.
The interest came from a meeting between Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu and Ms. Alesa Kundus, chief executive officer of Medex, a Slovenian organization producing honey and honey byproduct, at the ministry here.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has already been inked between Medex and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), to this end.
Haling the Slovenian proposal of importing honey from Bangladesh, Amu said, “It will create a scope to diversify the products meant for exports.”
During the meeting, the minister assured the Slovenian entrepreneurs of giving all sorts of assistance to produce quality honey jointly.
Amu, also an Advisory Council Member of ruling Awami League (AL), hoped the production of honey would increase manifold if the modern technology of Slovenia were applied in Bangladesh.
The current production of honey in Bangladesh is 4,000 metric tons. Honey production experts opined that the honey production will be one lakh metric tons in case of application of modern technology and increasing honey cultivators.
“Some 2,000 metric tons of honey have been produced locally against the demand for 30,000 metric tons of honey per year and Slovenia is ready to import the rest of honey from Bangladesh,” said Ms Alesa, CEO of Medex.
During the meeting, Alesa also said, “A congenial atmosphere has been prevailing in Bangladesh for honey cultivation and Slovenia will soon start working jointly with Bangladesh in producing quality honey,”.
Among others, Additional Secretary of Industries Ministry Md Forhad Uddin, BSCIC Chairman Ahmed Hossain Khan, its director honeybee cultivation program, Khandoker Aminuzzaman, President of Slovenia Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Mr. Ales Glavan, Slovenian expert honeybee cultivation expert Mr. France Sivic, were present during the meeting.
