Speakers at a pre-rally discussion said that there is no alternative to producing skilled human resources through popularising technical and vocational education for accelerating uplift to build a middle income nation by 2021.
They were addressing the discussion before bringing out a colourful rally from Rangpur Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to Rangpur Press Club premises in observance of the Technical and Vocational Education Week- 2014 with the theme of ‘Technical and Vocational Education for Facing Challenges of 21st Century. Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Narayan Chandra Barma led the rally and addressed the brief discussion as the chief guest with Principal of RPI Engineer Khondker Golam Mostafa, also convener of district week observance committee, in the chair.
Principal of Khondker Abdul Karim Mian BM College of Pirgachha upazila Fakhrul Anam Benzu, Principal of Rangpur Technical School and College Engineer Anwar Hossain, Member-secretary of the week observance committee Ali Mamun, also Principal of K. Ali Business Management Institute and Chief Instructor (Power) of RPI Nobez Uddin also addressed. The week is being observed here since June 17 last through arranging press conference, transmission of the recorded week opening ceremony by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka using programme projector on June 18. Besides, the colourful rally was arranged today on June 19 and ceremonies for informing local people about technical and vocational education will be arranged at the respective institution on June 20, car rally on June 21, seminar and roundtable discussion on June 22 and cultural programmes on June 24. The teachers and students of 650 technical and vocational institutions of the district in all eight upazilas, guardians, civil society members, professionals and local elite have been participating in the weeklong programmes.
The speakers said the technical and vocational education has already become popular as rate of admission increasing during the past five years to produce skilled workforces like engineers, planners and architects to build a developed Bangladesh.
