24-gold bar seized in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-38) in a drive seized 24-gold bar from Taluigachha frontier area in the district last night. On a tip-off, a BGB team conducted the drive in the area and recovered the gold bar worth about Taka one crore from a paddy field, BGB sources said. The gold bar is kept here for smuggling to India, the sources said, reports BSS.
1 held with 100 yaba tablets in Magura
MAGURA: Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in a drive arrested a drug peddler along with 100 pieces of yaba tablet at Chandpur in sadar upazila on Sunday noon. The arrestee was identified as Juban Sheikh, 37, hailing from Chaulia village in sadar upazila. Inspector of Magura DB Police Suvash Chandra Dam said on secrete information that Juban has been selling the contraband tablets for long in his shop adjacent to Chandpur Government Primary School, a team of DB police launched a drive at the shop and recovered 100 Yaba tablets from a box. Later police arrested Juban.
A case was filed with Magura Police Station in this connection, reports UNB.
Construction worker electrocuted in Khulna

A construction worker died from electrocution while his associate was injured in Bagmara area of Khulna city on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Limon,26, son of Delwar Hossain, a resident of Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat district. Witnesses said Limon and Arshadul lifted iron rods of the four-storey under-construction building in the area which accidentally touched a live wire at about 11:30 pm, leaving Limon dead on the spot and Arshadul injured. The injured was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Mujibnagar Day observed in Netrakona

The historic Mujibnagar Day was observed in Netrakona with a call to the pro-liberation forces for forging a greater unity among them by rising themselves above their self-interest for upholding the spirit of the liberation war and foiling all the evil designs of the anti-liberation forces. Netrakona District Administration chalked out an elaborate program to celebrate the day. As part of the program, a discussion meeting on “significance of the historic Mujibnagar day” was held at local public hall here on Friday under the auspices of the district administration. DC Netrakona Dr. Torun Kanti Shikder addressed the meeting as chief guest while Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Netrakona Dr Abdur Rahim was in the chair. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Administrator of Netrakona Zilla Parishad, Civil Surgeon Netrakona Bijon Kanti Sarker, Vice President of Netrakona District Awami league Adv Amirul Islam, President of Netrakona Sader Awami League Bazlul Kader Shahjahan, public prosecutor of the district Adv GM Khan Pathan Bimol, commander of district Muktijuddha Sangsad Nurul Amin and general secretary of Netrakona Press Club Muklesur Rahman Khan. The meeting was followed by a musical soiree based on patriotic songs. Later, District Administration also arranged screening of documentary film-show based on “liberation war” for the local people at the public hall.
