Six Myanmar nationals, who were carrying 300,000 pieces of yaba tablets, have been arrested in Teknaf.
The coastguard conducted a raid at the Chhera Dwip around 4:30am Thursday, said Jafar Imam Sajib, the coastguard’s contingent commander at Teknaf.
Although the detainees said they were Rohingyas, the coastguard could not immediately verify their name and identities, he said. “We had received a
tip-off about a yaba consignment arriving from Myanmar, so we took position near the Chhera Dwip. When then saw them coming to the island on an engine-driven boat,” said the coast guard official. “We told them to stop but they tried to escape. We chased them and arrested six Rohingyas. Later, we searched and seized 300,000 yaba tablets. We also seized the boat,” he added. A case file will be opened against them soon, said Jafar.
