Staff Reporter :US Ambassador in Dhaka, Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, expressed her deep concern regarding the prevailing political crisis in Bangladesh on Tuesday. She also laid emphasis on combined effort of all political parties to stop the ongoing violence. “It’s an absolute tragic situation….. I think, everyone has a role in stopping violence for ensuring democratic space in the country,” the US envoy said on Tuesday. The US diplomat was talking to reporters after over an hour-long meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at his ministry.Bernicat said Bangladesh is blessed being a democratic country and space is needed in democracy to resolve differences. “So, we reiterate our call from Washington that everyone has a role to stop violence to move into Situation in BDdemocratic space that Bangladesh is blessed to have. We’re both committed to increasing the relations…we have so much in common,” she clarified her government’s stance over the issue. Bernicat also said that she was delighted to meet the Foreign Minister so soon after her arrival and they talked about how deep and broad Bangladesh and US relations.The US ambassador arrived in Dhaka on 25 January and met State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque after submitting her credentials to President Abdul Hamid.
