Simple lifestyle to avoid heart disease risks urged

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Tuesday urged the people to lead a simple life avoiding some updated technologies that cause heart diseases.
“People should be careful to adopt a new technology as sometimes it becomes the reason of heart diseases,” he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on heart disease with National Professor and Founder President of National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh (NHFB) Brig (Retd) Dr Abdul Malik in the chair.
National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Centre (NHFRC) organised the seminar at its auditorium in city’s Mirpur area to mark the World Heart Day 2015 with the theme ‘Healthy Heart Environments’ aim to create awareness to reduce cardiovascular risks and promote a heart-healthy planet.
“Walk and keep your children away from fast food,” the minister suggested and said, people should be careful about using mobile phones and other electronic appliances, as these are the risk factors for heart diseases.
Prof Sohel Reza Choudhury presented the key note paper at the seminar.
NHFB Vice President Prof R K Khandaker, Dr M Serajul Islam, Secretary General Prof Khondker Abdul Awal Rizvi and Professional officer of World health organization Prof Dr Zaman also spoke.
According to the World Heart Federation, heart diseases and strokes are the leading causes of death, killing 17.1 million people annually in the world.
Brig (Retd) Dr Abdul Malik said people are suffering from cardiovascular diseases more because of their unhealthy life style.
Everybody has to be careful regarding body weight, blood pressure, salt intake etc, as the treatment of heart diseases is expensive, preventive measures should be taken, he suggested.
People should try to make a heart-healthy environment avoiding fast food and maintaining smoke-free zones, the experts suggested.
