Two minor children drowned at a canal at Sawmill Para area under Mohalchhari Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
They were identified as Urmi Chakma, 7 and Anion Chakma, 3; both are children of Arben Chakma of the said area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohalchhari Police Station Md Semaiun Kabir Chowdhury said Urmi and her brother Anion went to a nearby canal to take bath at 2:30pm on Tuesday and drowned there.
Seeing their plight, locals rescued them immediately and rushed them to Mohalchhari Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared them dead.
A pall of gloom descended upon the whole village at their sad demise.
