Although public transport is not running due to lockdown, shopping malls, shops and various business establishments have opened in Chittagong. However, the buyer has not been seen since the first day.Traders say many have recovered from Eid shopping before the lockdown. So buyer gathering is low. However, they think that if the lockdown is fully lifted, the business will freeze.
“Ramadan is our trading season,” said Kauser Alam, a trader at the city’s Zahur Hawker Market. There was no business on Eid last year. This loss has not yet been overcomed. If the shop was closed this year too, it would have suffered losses. The rest of Eid is only 16/17 days. If I can overcome the loss, I am trying.
Meanwhile, the mobile court of the district administration is supervising the compliance of hygiene rules after keeping the shop open. Necessary instructions have been given to the leaders of the shop owners’ association and business association in this regard.
Leaders of Bangladesh Shop Owners Association Chittagong District and Chittagong Metropolitan Shop Owners Association have expressed their gratitude to the government for opening the shopping mall considering the livelihood of a large number of people involved in the profession.
