Staff Reporter :Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali has said that the arsonists and saboteurs would be shot at sight while the government would enact a law in the national parliament in this regard by a week.”No more trial of arsonists through existing law or speedy trials act. They will be shot at sight. They will be identified in the localities and punished. The government is going to take a decision to shoot arsonists and saboteurs at sight,” he said this while talking to newsmen after visiting the violence victims at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s burn unit yesterday. The Minister visited the burn unit around 11:00am to see the arson victims of the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s countrywide blockade programme that entered the 15th day on Tuesday.Syed Mohsin Ali said, “It’s not possible to show humanity to the saboteurs. They will be tackled with a strong hand. This type of situation can no longer be tolerated. We want to declare a war against them.””What I’ve seen in the burn unit…it was painful, sad and heart breaking. We all talk about humanity. Now people are suffering from burn injuries. How we will tolerate this? The situation is upsetting. It is a violation of the Human Rights,” the Minister asked. He said, “When we go for introducing a law, you all talk about humanity. Now the parliament is in the session. We will raise the ‘issue’ in the House. We will make an arrangement in this regard by a week.”At one stage, the Minister also admitted that the government has failed to provide security to the citizen. At least 27 persons were killed and several hundred injured in the political violence during the BNP-led 20-party-sponsored blockade enforced from January 5.
