Premier Division Cricket League: Sheikh Jamal beat MSC by 1 wicket

Despite a brilliant unbeaten 144 from opener Shamsur Rahman and Rony Talukdar’s 110 saw Mohammedan Sporting Club suffered a heartbreaking one run defeat against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Sunday at BKSP’s No. 3 Ground at Savar.
Shamsur Rahman’s scintillating144 and Rony’s 110 saw Mohammedan post 339 for 5 in their allotted overs and in reply Sohag Gazi with 89, Prashant Chopra with 86, Tanbir Haider with 77 and Elias Sunny with priceless unbeaten 39 saw Sheikh Jamal reached the winning target scoring 343 for 9 with two balls to spare.
Earlier in the day Sheikh Jamal captain Rajin Saleh may initially rue his decision to field first, as Mohammedan riding on the second wicket stand of 173 in 29.3 overs set the platform for a mammoth score. The finishing touch was provided during the fifth and sixth wicket stands as runs came thick and fast from the bats of Mohammedan batters.
Shamsur scored 144 not out from 152 balls. His knock contained seven fours and seven sixes. Mohammedan captain Rony made 110 from 99 balls with 10 fours and three sixes to his name.
Sheikh Jamal bowlers suffered a torrid day at the field, and almost all of them were sent on a leather hunt at BKSP.
Elias Sunny and Abdullah Al Mamun were the most successful bowlers for Sheikh Jamal as they bagged two wickets each for 66 and 31 runs respectively.
In reply Sheikh Jamal batters were not to bow down without a fight as they all chipped in runs in quick fashion to over haul a massive target by scoring 343 for 9 in 49.4 overs.
Fazle Mahmud 28, Prasant Chopra 86 off 60 balls with 10 boundaries and five over boundaries, Sohag Gazi with 89 off 64 balls with eight boundaries and three sixes, Tanbir Hayder with 77 off 72 balls and Elias Sunny with 39 not out off 45 balls were the successful Sheikh Jamal batsmen who broke Mohammedan bowler’s heart.
Mohammad Azim was the leading Mohammedan bowler with 4 for 70.
