Fourth seed Maria Sharapova reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon after beating Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan.
The 2004 champion has yet to drop a set at this year’s tournament but was put to the test by the unseeded 21-year-old before eventually progressing 6-4 6-4 in 97 minutes.
Sharapova, 28, will now face unseeded Coco Vandeweghe, 23, in the next round.
Vandeweghe earned a surprise win over sixth seed Lucie Safarova, while fellow American Madison Keys also progressed.
Czech Safarova, 28, finished runner-up at the French Open earlier this year but was outplayed by Vandeweghe, who won 7-6 7-6 to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final for the first time.
