A government investigation committee has said it will interrogate Narayanganj’s local MP Shamim Osman and city Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in connection with the sensational Seven murder case.
Probe body member secretary and public administration ministry’s Deputy Secretary Abul Kashem Md Mohiuddin informed journalists of the latest development on Sunday.
The questioning will take place at room of the ministry’s Additional Secretary Shahjahan Ali Molla in the Secretariat on Monday.
Ivy will be questioned at 10am and Osman at 11:30am, said Mohiuddin.
Seven people, including Narayanganj City councillor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, were abducted on Apr 27. Their bloated bodies were found floating in the Shitalakhyya River several days later.
Islam’s relatives claimed members of elite police unit RAB had carried out the abduction and murders for Tk 60 million that they received from prime suspect Awami League leader Nur Hossain.
So far, the investigation committee has questioned more than 350 people. That includes top RAB officials.
Asked if the probe body had plans to travel to India to question Nur Hossain, the deputy secretary said the matter was being considered.
“It won’t be possible for us to go if we delay any more,” he said.
Hossain, arrested from Kolkata in June, is currently in West Bengal police custody.
Three RAB officers were sent back to the army and were later forced to retire over their alleged involvement with the multiple murders.
They were arrested on a High Court order and have reportedly issued ‘confessional statements’.
RAB’s Additional Director General Col Ziaul Ahsan was questioned by the committee after allegations were raised that he had prior knowledge of the crime.
On May 7, the government formed the investigation committee to probe the alleged involvement of RAB and other security agencies with the incident.
