BSS, Dhaka :
Though Shakib Al Hasan failed to grab any wicket in the final and scored only 13 runs, he still managed to hog the headlines as he was ranked sixth on the list of most valuable players in the just-concluded Indian Premier League 2014.
Shakib playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) helped his team to lift the title for the second time in three years as the final was held on June 1.
World’s leading and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib surprised everyone by collecting 238.5 ranking points and was one of three Kolkata players on the most valuable list.
Robin Uthappa, who was the leading scorer of the IPL, was ranked second in the coveted list while Shakib made Bangladesh proud being ranked 6th in the list ahead of the most talked and feared West Indian spinner Sunil Narine.
However Narine had to remain satisfied being placed seventh.
Australian and Kings XI Punjab batsman Glenn Maxwell bagged the top spot for his incredible stroke play.
Bangladesh’s dependable all rounder, who featured in Kolkata’s final victory over Kings XI Punjab on Sunday, scored 227 runs and took 11 wickets in 13 games of the lucrative Twenty20 league.
Adding to his bright performance is that he bowled at an economy rate of 6.68 per over in a format which sees most bowlers punished for 7.5 runs an over or higher.
His 227 runs were also scored at an impressive strike rate of 149.34.
He is placed 35th and 21st on the runs and wickets charts respectively.
Shakib and his KKR teammates were felicitated this evening by the West Bengal government and the Cricket Association of Bengal at the famous Eden Garden.
