Premier Division Cricket League: Shahid leads Rupganj’s victory in Super League

Mohammad Shahid’s fierce bowling spells helped Legends of Rupganj to earn an overwhelming eight-wicket victory over Gazi Group Cricketers in the fourth round Super League match of Premier Division Cricket League on Monday.
With this victory, Rupganj stay in the title race securing 20 points, two points behind league leader Abahani Limited, from 15 matches while Gazi Group remains at their previous collection of 14 points playing the same number of matches.
Chasing a paltry winning target of 153-run, Rupganj comfortably reached home for the loss of two wickets with 163 balls remaining.
Indian recruit Avishek Mitra and Mushfiqur Rahim led Rupganj towards the victory to remain unbeaten with 57 and 30 runs respectively.
Earlier, invited to bat first by Rupganj, defending champions Gazi Group suffered serious batting debacle and was cheaply dismissed at a paltry total of 152 in 45.4 overs at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah. Jahurul Islam top scored with 31 runs while Jaker Ali contributed 30 in the middle as Gazi Group lost wickets at regular intervals in the face of tight bowling attacks by the Rupganj’s bowlers.
Mohammad Shahid, the wrecker in-chief, caused the major damage as he grabbed four wickets conceding 26 runs while Asif Hasan and Parvez Rasool took two wickets each.
