Shah Amanat Bridge approach road to open before Eid

The expansion works of the eight kilometre-long six lane approach road of Shah Amanat bridge over the Karnaphuli River is progressing fast and it is expected to be opened for traffic before Eid-ul-Azha.
The bridge connecting road consists of five kilometres on city side of Baddarhat intersection while three kilometres on the south side of Shah Amanat bridge. The expansion works on the south side have already been completed.
After visiting the Baddarhat intersection part of the approach road, this corresponded found that the bitumen works is progressing fast where the earth filling and other related works are almost completed. Project director Tofail Mia said they are trying their best to complete the works of bridge connecting road ahead of Eid.
He said the works of Asphalt plant in Karnaphuli thana portion is almost completed and the vehicles will easily ply on the road without facing any hindrance. Deputy project manager Engr Ashik Kadir said nearly 80 percent works of the approach road project have already been completed, including construction of eight concrete culverts and four bridge sub-structures.
Out of Tk 270 crore cost of the project, the Kuwait government is providing Tk 107 crore while the Bangladesh government is giving the remaining Tk 163 crore.
