Seven people have been shot in a clash at Kunia Union Parishad (UP) in Madaripur a day after the elections were held there.
The clash between the supporters of a defeated chairman contender and a former chairman took place in Adityapur village on Friday morning, said Officer-in-charge Ziaul Morshed of Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station. The injured, who could not be identified immediately, were admitted to Madaripur General Hospital.
Independent candidate Saheb Ali lost the race
in Thursday’s elections. His supporters blame the defeat on former chairman Ismail ‘Master’, who they say had promised to extend support to Ali but had not kept it.
“The angry supporters of Ali attacked Ismail’s house around 9:30am. This led to a clash and gunfight in which seven people were shot,” OC Morshed said, citing the locals.
