Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith Tuesday urged the stakeholders to take advantages of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to settle pending tax related cases and help the administration recover a big amount of revenue remaining stuck-up for disputes.
“We have launched the ADR system to make easy the revenue earning process, which would enhance the progressive engagement between tax administration and tax payers for boosting revenue earning,” he said.
The minister was addressing as the chief guest a seminar on International Customs Day-2016 at the Officers’ Club in the capital.
The theme of the day this year was “Digital Customs: Progressive Engagement”. Muhith said he has already asked the revenue officials to strengthen the ADR process and make it attractive and effective.
He, however, said the upcoming customs law is likely to be placed before the parliament in the next budget session aiming to make easier the revenue collection process. “I would like to place the customs law before the parliament in the next budget session,” he said.
He called on the businessmen to give necessary suggestion on the law to make it effective and time befitting.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Economic Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Mashiur Rahman, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance Ministry Dr M Abdur Razzak and President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Abdul Matlub Ahmad attended the seminar as special guests. National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman M Nojibur Rahman presided.
Tofail Ahmed said the government is trade-friendly and it has been providing all necessary supports to the businessmen to boost up the economy of the country.
He urged the concerned authorities to find out new areas of revenue earnings as well as increase the revenue collection growth. Dr Mashiur Rahman said the digitisation will help the export and import related institutions to be skilled, effective and revenue and trade friendly.
Dr Abdur Razzak called the customs officials for being more transparent and integrated in their responsibility.
At the function, 15 revenue officials and five others stakeholders received certificate of merit for their contribution to their respective fields.
Earlier in the morning, a colourful rally was brought out from the NBR headquarters and it paraded up to the National Press Club.
The World Customs Organization (WCO) was established in 1952 as an autonomous body to enhance the efficacy and effectiveness of the customs administrations across the world.
