Security beefed up ahead of Nizami verdict

Security has been tightened across the country, especially in the capital, to avert any untoward incident ahead of the verdict of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami. Sources in police said plainclothes police will remain on high alert alongside those in uniform from early hours on Wednesday. Side by side still and video cameras will be kept at a number of strategic city points to identify troublemakers. The International Crimes Tribunal-1 is set to deliver its verdict on Wednesday on the war crimes case of Jamaat-e-Islami boss. Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said all-out security measures have been taken in the capital to foil any attempt to destabilise the law and order situation before and after the verdict of ICT. Sources at the BGB headquarters said several BGB teams will be deployed on Tuesday midnight. They will patrol the streets so that the law and order situation do not deteriorate in any way over the verdict.
