‘Saheed Sinha Gold Medal’ introduced at DU

A new gold medal titled ‘Saheed Sinha Gold Medal’ was introduced at International Relations Department of Dhaka University.
Esmat Saheed, wife of late Abu Naseem M Saheed Sinha, handed over a cheque for Taka 10 lac to DU Treasurer Professor M Kamal Uddin on Thursday at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to introduce the gold medal.
Izzat Tanzeen Hossain, daughter of late Saheed Sinha, who is living in USA, has donated money for introducing the gold medal in memory of her father.
Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed and other faculty members were present on the occasion.
Out of the income of this donation, every year two meritorious students who will secure the highest CGPA in BSS honours and MSS examinations respectively from the Department of International Relations of DU will be awarded ‘Saheed Sinha Gold Medal’.
Prof Siddique thanked the donor for introducing this gold medal at the university and hoped that the students would be highly benefited and encouraged from this donation.
The VC also paid his glowing tributes to the memory of late Saheed Sinha.
Abu Naseem Md Saheed Sinha, a renowned language movement hero was born on February 2, 1936 in Kolkata. He obtained his Masters degree from the Department of International Relations of Dhaka University in 1960.
Sinha had attended the Language Movement directly as a student leader. He was the Vice-President of the then Dhaka Hall (currently Shahidullah Hall) of Dhaka University. He was the proprietor of East Asia Enterprises, a successful business institution in the country. He died on January 1, 2015.
