Sabina Khatun is prepared to show performance in Maldives Football Fiesta. Sabina will participate in the football competition for Maldives Police. Khatun is now staying in Maldives and she is now taking part in the practice session regularly. Sabina is the first Bangladeshi women, who will play for a foreign club in a foreign football tournament.
In the last SAFF Women’s Championship held in 2014, Sabina played for Bangladesh against Maldives. Bangladesh defeated Maldives by 3-1 goals. Sabina scored twice for Bangladesh in that match. An official of Maldives Police watched her spectacular performance and then he chose Sabina for his club.
It is noteworthy that Kazi Salahuddin was the first Bangladeshi male footballer, who played for a foreign team in a foreign football competition. In the year of 1975, Salahuddin played in Hong Kong Professional Football League. He played for FC Carolina.
Before leaving the country for Maldives, Sabina Khatun said, “I shall prove in Maldives that Bangladeshi women footballers really play well. If I perform well in Maldives, then the other foreign clubs will recruit women footballers from our country.”
The Maldives Football Fiesta will be held from March 14 to April 17. A total of 14 teams will take part in the football competition. Sabina Khatun will play for Maldives Police on March 17.
