Saad’s Rehana Maryam Noor becomes first BD film to feature in Cannes Film Festival

France’s Cannes Film Festival, arguably the most prestigious film festival in the world, has
officially selected Bangladeshi Filmmaker Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s film Rehana Maryam Noor in its Un Certain Regard section.
It is a major segment of the festival, and Rehana Maryam Noor is the first Bangladeshi film to be
featured in it. Un Certain Regard, meaning ‘from another angle,’ presents 20 films with unusual styles and non-traditional stories seeking international recognition.
The film Rehana Maryam Noor, which features Azmeri Haque Badhon, Afia Zahin, Kazi Sami Hasan and Tuhin Tajimul, among others, is based on a medical
college teacher, Rehana Maryam Noor, who happens to witness
an unfortunate incident on her way home. On behalf of the
student, she fights the system, going against all odds.
This year’s Cannes Film Festival will start from July 6.
