RU Correspondent :
The result of Masters of Science of the year 2012 of Applied Mathematics Department at Rajshahi University (RU) has not been published yet for delay in submission of thesis report.
The teachers and the students of the department raised an allegation that a senior teacher of the department has tempered marksheet.
“The department’ senior Teacher Professor Shamsul Alam Sarker opened some thesis sheet and gave huge marks to his selected students illegally,” they alleged.
The professor did it intentionally to defame the university’s present excellent performance, they claimed.
A teacher alleged, “The professor was unscrupulous by nature right from the beginning of his profession and gave excess marks to his favorite students.”
Department sources said, “Prof Shamsul Alam increased the number of a
student in order to get him letter in his term as a teacher in the department. Prof Alam along with Shamima Sultana, Associate Professor of the department tempered some tabulation sheet of the batch. Even, Prof Alam requested the second examiner of thesis, who was teacher of Jahangirnagar University, to increase the number of that student.”
In September, after getting written allegation of tempering tabulation sheet and forgering thesis paper, the university Vice-Chancellor.
Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin sent a letter to the department through Controller of Examinations asking for the decision of academic committee meeting. As per direction, chairman of the department called for meeting on Dec 28 last year. At least seven teachers out of 10 agreed to publish result.
Following the incident, Dr Abdul Haque, Chairman of the department sent a letter to the Controller of Examinations stating that the meeting failed to reach any decision.
As most of the teachers agreed, the authority approved the publication of result at the beginning of this year. But two days later, the authority postponed their decision due to unknown reasons.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe body was formed in this regards headed by Prof Rezaul Karim of Biochemistry and Molecular Science department. But the body has not submitted report even after seven months has elasped.
Jayanto Karmaker, one of the victims, said, “I came here from a poor family. Now I and my family are passing the days in unpleasant condition for not getting result.”
Rejecting the allegations, Prof Shamsul Alam Sarker told The New Nation that he was the supervisor of that student in thesis work.
“Someone tried to defame my image as I am active in a party politics”, he also said.
Dr Abdul Haque, Chairman of the department could not be reached over phone despite repeated efforts.
Contacted, Abdul Gafur, Deputy Controller of Examinations (result) said, as the probe body was formed to investigate the allegations of tempering tabulation sheet and forging thesis paper, we could not publish result until the report is published.
