England batsman Joe Root completed 3,000 Test runs during the fifth day of the second Test against Pakistan in Dubai on Monday before losing his wicket just 10 runs later.
The 24-year-old reached the milestone when he pushed paceman Wahab Riaz towards square-leg for his 61st run, achieving the feat in his 34th Test.
But he fell for 71, edging to Younis Khan at first slip off the bowling of Zulfiqar Babar, to leave England 157 for 4 chasing a world record 491 to win.
He is the 41st English batsman to achieve the feat and averages 56.79 in Tests.
England skipper Alastair Cook heads the run-scorers’ list for England with 9,668 in 126 matches.
