Robber killed in gunfight with cops

An alleged robber ringleader was killed in a gunfight between his cohorts and police at Burumaria village in Pangsha upazila early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Sobhan, 49, ringleader of a notorious robber gang, who hailed from Lakkhandia village of Majhpara union in the upazila. Abu Samad Md Iqbal Hayat, officer-in-charge of Pangsha Police Station, said police arrested the robber from Charkolimohor village in the upaizla around 10 pm on Thursday night.
Later a team of police along with Sobhan conducted a drive at a mango orchard of Akter Master in Burumaria village around 1:30 am to recover
firearms. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, associates of Sobhan opened fire to police, prompting the police force to retaliate, triggering a gunfight. Sobhan was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
However, police could not arrest anyone as the robbers managed to flee the scene. Six policemen, including the OC, two sub-inspector, one assistant sub-inspector and two constables, who were slightly injured were given first aid. Police recovered one foreign made revolver, three rounds of bullet, two one-shutter guns and five rounds of cartridges from the spot. Police recovered the bodies and sent those to sadar hospital morgue.
