‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Rajapur area of Sadar upazila early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Tipu Sheikh, 45, son of AsarUddin, a resident of Kabirpur village in Sadar upazila, and was accused in eight drug cases.
Ruhul Amin, commanding officer of Rab-12, said that on information a team of Rab conducted a drive in an abandoned building of a cotton mill around 3:30am.
Sensing the presence of the Rab team, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gun fight. After the drug traders fled the scene, the Rab team found Tipu injured with bullet.
Later, he was rushed to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Two Rab members were also injured.
Police recovered a foreign revolver, five rounds of bullet and 770 Yaba tablets from the spot.
