Nine people were killed and 33 others injured in road accidents in Tangail, Faridpur, Natore, Laxmipur, Narayanganj and Dhaka districts on Friday.
In Tangail, three people killed and at least 14 others injured in a collision between a truck and a bus at Natiapara Dubail in Delduar upazila in the afternoon.
Two of the deceased were identified as Alam Miah, 30, and Rima Khatun, 10, of Dhunat upazila in Bogra district.
Officer-in-charge of Gorai highway police station Humayun Kabir said the Dhaka-bound ‘Nabil Paribahan’ bus collided with the truck on Dhaka-Tangail highway.
Under the impact of the collision, the bus plunged into the roadside paddy field, leaving two passengers dead on the spot and 15 others injured.
The injured were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital and Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital where another person succumbed to his injuries at evening.
In Naogaon, two people were killed in separate road accidents in Porsha and Manda upazilas.
The deceased were identified as Abdur Razzaque, 40, a tractor helper and son of Erfad Ali of Kuladanga village in Porsha, and Lutfar Rahman, 45, of Abdalpur village in Nachole upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
Police said Razzaque was run over by his tractor at Nitpur around 1:30pm as he slipped while getting into the vehicle, leaving him injured.
He was taken to Porsha Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Lutfar was killed as a truck smashed his motorcycle at Kusumba in Manda around 12 noon. The accident also left his two co-riders injured.
In Faridpur, a bus helper was killed and at least 15 passengers were injured in a head-on collision between a goods-laden truck and a bus at the Rajbari road intersection in Sadar upazila at noon. The deceased could not be identified yet.
OC of Faridpur Kotwali police station Syed Mohsinul Haq said the Dhaka-bound truck collided head-on with the bus of ‘Kohinoor Paribahan’ on Dhaka-Khulna highway, killing the unidentified bus helper, 25, on the spot and injuring at least 15 passengers.
At Savar of Dhaka, a rickshaw-puller, Khalilur Rahman, 35 son of Jamid Shah of Sundarpur in Joypurhat Sadar upazila, was killed as he was run over by a speedy bus at Ulail bus stand around 1:30pm.
In Laxmipur, a woman was killed as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw rammed her at Bhabaniganj on Laxmipur-Ramganj road in Sadar upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Minara Begum, wife of Abdur Rahim of Abdullahpur in Sadar upazila.
Police and witnesses said the three-wheeler hit Minara Begum while she was crossing the road, leaving her critically injured. Later, she died at a hospital.
In Narayanganj, a sexagenarian woman was killed and three people were injured as a bus knocked a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Dewanbagh on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Bandar upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Rahima Begum, 60, wife of Hazi Tota Miah of Kajirgaon in Sonargaon upazila.
Sub-inspector of Kanchpur Highway Police Station Khairul Islam said the Comilla-bound bus of ‘Homna Paribahan’ hit the three-wheeler around 12pm, leaving Rahima dead at the spot and her daughter, grandchild and the driver of the vehicle injured.
