Different political, socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day yesterday.
On this occasion, these organizations paid rich tribute to the martyrs together with conveying deep sympathy to members of the bereaved families.
Different political parties, socio-cultural and professional organizations organized discussion meetings, cultural functions and Milad Mahfils to mark the Day.
They paid rich tributes to those glorious sons who enriched the nation’s history and awakened it against injustice through their mighty pens and finally made supreme sacrifices. To observe the mournful day, multifarious programmes have been chalkedout. The programmes included placing wreaths on the altar at the central Shaheed Minar, photo exhibition, public gathering, discussion meeting and candle lighting on mass graves throughout the day. Chittagong city unit Awami League will place wreaths at local Shaheed Minar in the morning yesterday and arranged a discussion meeting at party office Darul Fazal Market to mark the day.
Local unit of Workers Party of Bangladesh also arrange differentprogramme including candle lighting programme at Shahid Minar with placing wreaths on the memorial plaque. National flags hoisted half-mast at all public offices and important institutions.
Chittagong centres of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar aired special programmes while local dailies would publish special articles highlighting the significance of the day.

unit, Bangladesher Communist Party, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal, Bangabandhu Samaj Kallayan Parishad and Bangladesh Islamic Front arrange various programmes including presenting garlands at Shaeed Minar, holding of discussion meetings, cultural functions and Milad Mahfils to observe the day.Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) and Chittagong Press Club (CPC), Metropolitan Journalists Union leaders also place wreaths at Shaeed Minar at one minute past of zero hours on Tuesday night..Chittagong District Administration, Chittagong District ShilpokolaAcademy and Shisu academy organize a discussion meeting, essaycompetition in front of Shisu Academy yesterday..
