Report on 20 years strategic plan for tertiary education presented

A report on the 20 years strategic plan for tertiary education and research in universities by the six expert committees was presented at a workshop held at UGC auditorium on Sunday. The six committees were earlier formed by the Education Ministry to review and update 20 years strategic plan for Bangladesh. Strategic Policy Unit (SPU) of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project organized the workshop. Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC presided over the workshop. Conveners of the six committees were Dr Mohammad Farashuddin, former Governor, Bangladesh Bank (vision, size and shape group), Prof Dr Dil Aforza Begum, Member, UGC (quality group), Prof Nazrul Islam, former Chairman, UGC (governance and management group), Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali, Member, UGC (future funding group), Prof Dr Syed Saad Andaleeb, Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University (university research group) and Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC (ICT group) presented their reports in the workshop. UGC Member Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah moderated the workshop.
Professor Mannan, in his speech said that the report on the updated 20 years strategic plan for public and private universities by the six expert committees will play an important role for enhancement of higher education and research in Bangladesh. He also said that expansion of higher education has taken place in the country. Now we have to ensure quality education at tertiary level.
Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, ndc, Project Director (Additional Director), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project, Dr Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Operations Officer, World Bank, members of expert committees and officials from UGC and HEQEP, among others were present on the workshop.
