Remand, bail of Mahmudur rejected

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Monday rejected the remand plea of police about the daily Amar Desh Acting editor Mahmudur Rahman and directed them to interrogate him at the jail gate within five days, if necessary.
Besides, Magistrate Md Maruf Hossain of the CMM Court rejected the bail petition of Mahmudur Rahman in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station under the Explosive Substances Act. A number of advocates including Dhaka Bar Association President Masud Ahmed Talukder , former president Sanaullah Mia and former general secretary Khorshed Mia Alam moved the bail petition. On the contrary, additional public prosecutor Shah Alam Talukder was present in the courtroom on behalf of the prosecution.
It has been learned that although, Mahmudur Rahman secured bails in all 70 cases against him, on February 14, police stopped his release from the jail showing him arrested in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station. The case was filed in connection with an explosion in front of Mokarram Hossain Building, adjacent to Dhaka University Playground on January 28, 2013. Although, his name was included amongst the 44 accused of the First Information Report, yet Mahmudur Rahman was shown arrested in the case. Moreover, the police sought seven days to put him on remand for interrogation.
Mahmudur Rahman has been in the jail custody since April 11, 2013.
