A laudable initiative
We envision a country where children will be safe and comfortable, and no girls will be abused or harassed. A land where people like Badrul or Saiful would never dare to commit such heinous crimes.
The toll-free Helpline 1098 launched by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday is a noteworthy step towards that vision. The nationwide helpline will facilitate report of abuse, child rights violation or any other incident disrupting the protection of children. Implemented by the Ministry of Social Welfare with financial and technical assistance from UNICEF, this will benefit children of all classes and backgrounds. I wholeheartedly applaud the Prime Minister for this initiative.
