Invite Iran to Int’l V’ball competition

Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF) plans to organize an international volleyball tournament in Dhaka in the last week of May 2014. Teams from India, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand and hosts Bangladesh are expected to take part in the competition. This will be the first ever after a long time.
There is no doubt that the tournament will boost volleyball’s popularity in the country. The three service teams and two or three office teams have been struggling to keep volleyball alive in the country. The federation, as the guardian of this discipline of sports in the country, has something to do and it may be that the planned international tournament is part thereof.
Nonetheless, we like to say that the tournament can be more striking and competitive provided the volleyball federation invites teams from one of the leading nations of Asia. And that nation can be Iran, the reigning Asian Champions. Iran took part once in an international tournament held in Dhaka long ago and annexed the trophy beating the then Asian Champions China in the final. Howbeit, if it is not possible to bring Iran for any reason whatsoever, try China, South Korea and Japan–the three other leading nations.
In this connection, we would urge the BVF to organize volleyball league regularly, to make a drive to pick up talents from the grass root levels, to arrange the inter-district, the independence day and the victory day tournaments and to invite teams from other countries to play several matches. Will the federation consider our proposals?
