Reckless cyber crime: 83 cafes under vigilance

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) brought 83 cyber cafes of the city under police vigilance recently.
 Police authority also enquiring whether any cyber café is running in the city without the legal authority of the BRTC .
CMP adopted the measures against the alarming cyber crimes in the city through using cyber café by the criminals.
Police sources said out of the total crimes in the city, 20 to 25% crimes are committed through cyber café using .
The victims of the cyber crimes are children, juveniles of the poor families and the higher qualified girls of the aristocrat families. The members of the socially enriched families are becoming victims of these cyber crimes.
Young juveniles and u youths are involved with these cyber crimes, sources added. Following the alarming increase of cyber crimes in the city, CMP authority for the first time adopted vigilance programs against the cyber cafes in the city. Additional Police commissioner (Crimes) Banaj Kumar Majumder told The New Nation that most of the crimes are being committed through cyber café as per our vigilance.
He said the criminals are not using their personal laptop or mobile internet rather using cyber café for committing such crimes. We for the first time will enquire these cyber cafes whether they running cafes with legal permission or not.
The environment inside the café premises will come under our vigilance, he added.
There is a provision of BRTC Act 2001 section-36 to run a cyber café under ISP license , he added.
Under this act, every cyber users should register their names with ID card no in the register book of the café and no students either male or female should not permitted in the café during school period unless the permission letter of the teacher or guardians.
Cyber café should not used for any unsocial activities or programs and sighting of porno picture is completely prohibited, he added. The police officials said most of the cyber cafes in the city are not fulfilling the terms and conditions of the BRTC and avoiding the installation of CC camera inside the café.
Senior police officials Banaj Kumar said they listed 83 cyber cafes in the city and their vigilance has already started .
He also disclosed that out of 83 cafes, 9 in Kotwali thana , 23 in Chowklbazar thana area, 6 in Chandgaon thana, 8 in EPZ thana, one in Khulsi thana, 9 in Panchalaish thana, 3 in Patenga model thana, 6 in double mooring thana, 11 in Halishahar thana, 4 in Akber Shah thana and 3 in Baizid thana are running their business .
 He further said police is regularly receiving different complaints against these cyber cafes . He said cyber cafes grown up in different lanes and by-lanes of the city like mushroom and the incident of crimes increases to some extents through cyber crimes, he opined.
So there should be a controlling authority of these cyber cafes , we think, he added.
