Brazilian football in disaster
Brazil’s tragic episode in football is completed. Perhaps, Brazil. Football Confederation’s SOS sent to the super stars of the period between 1958 and 1970 neither reached them nor they responded to the call. Some of the imposing stars were Garrincha, Vava, Pele, Alberto, Jairzinho, Pepe and Dida. That is why Brazil’s National football team lost (tie-breaker) to Paraguay in the quarterfinal of the Copa-America Cup on June 27 to complete the episode.
Before it, Its Olympic team lost to Mexico in 1912 in the final in the UK, World Cup squad surrendered to Germany at home in the semifinals last year, Youth team conceded defeat to Serbia in the World U-20 Cup final in New Zealand in June and the Women World Cup squad gave in to Australia in the Round of 16 in Canada the other day..
It was said in this letter column after loss to Columbia in the Copa America Cup that Brazil would not be able to win the underway Continental soccer title, the 2017 Confederation Cup and the 2018 World Cup. Sixty-six percent of the prediction has already been proved truth.
Once again I like to say that lack of shooting power is the main source of Brazil’s defeats. Control of ball possession most of the time does not guarantee a team victory unless the players have strength to send balls into the goal posts. We think that aerial supremacy in the deep defence must be restored to avoid mistake like handling ball into the penalty box that sent them packing on Saturday.
Now only a miracle can lift Brazil from disaster.
