BD may do well in Gymnastics
The World Artistic Gymnastics Championships are the World Championships for artistic gymnastics. The first edition of the championship was held in 1903, exclusively for male gymnasts. Women’s events are held together with men’s events since 1934. That was the 10th edition of the chapionship.
As of 2017, over 60 different editions of the championships have been staged, and more than 40 different countries have earned medals in both men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics events. The most successful nation, both in gold medal results and total number of medals, is former Soviet Union. China is the second most successful country in total medals earned followed by Japan. Russia, Romania and the United States are also usually among the most dominant nations, especially in women’s artistic gymnastics events.
Japan are the current champions in men section, while the USA dominate the women division. The two other power houses in the men section are Great Britain and China, and in the women division are China and Great Britain.
In the near past, the Bangladeshi athletes were showing their interest in this discipline of the sports, and there was possibility of winning medals in the Asian Games. But all on a sudden, we observed the wind blowing from the opposite direction. We think that the Bangladesh Gymnastic Federation should work hard keeping it mind that individual excellence may bring medal from the international aena.
