Seven people killed in Ctg gas pipe blast

Staff Reporter : At least seven people were killed and 15 more injured in a gas pipeline blast at a building in Patharghata of Chattogram city around 8:30am today.
The blast occurred on the ground floor of a five-storey building on Brickfield Road.
On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and rescued trapped people from the debris, Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station said it to the journalists.
Four of the deceased were identified as Annie Barua, 40, Noor Islam, 30, Julha Begum Farzana, 32 and her son Atiqur Rahman, a student of class 2.
Officials from the spot said a major portion of the ground floor was blown off in the explosion.
Around 22 people were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared seven people death.
Among the deceased, Nur Islam was a building painter was working in the adjacent building during the explosion took place, his family members said.
Meanwhile another deceased Annie Barua was the headmaster of Mehrani Govt Primary School and was crossing the street when the gas pipeline exploded, resulting in her death, the correspondent quoted Annie Barua’s father Engineer Palash Barua as saying.
