‘Rat is economic, social enemy’

Speakers at a programme said rat is a social and economic enemy as it destroys thousands of tonnes food grains, spreads diseases, damages daily usable and preserved items across the country.
They said these while addressing a month long rat killing programme organised by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) at the DAE conference room on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi Abu Hena Morshed Zaman inaugurated the programme as chief guest while Deputy Director of DAE Suvash Chandra Gayan was in the chair.
The chief guest encouraged all life of people to kill more rats to save paddy and other crops in the greater interest of the nation.
The function was also addressed, among others, by district training officer Abus Uddin, additional deputy director (Horticulture) Habibur Rahman upazila agriculture officer Hanif shikdar, BSS Narsingdi district correspondent Mohammad Abu Taaher, Headmaster of Ponchaboti Government Primary School Mohammad Tofazal Hossain and reward winner for rat elimination drive-2013 Syeduzzaman.
The function was informed that this year thousands of rats were killed in the district by the farmers, students and people to save Aman Paddy in the current season.
