Land Port Authority Chairman inspects: Ramgarh land port work begins

The construction work of the necessary infrastructure of the land port at Ramgarh in Khagrachhari will start this month. And with the launch of this land port, the economic condition of the backward people of the underdeveloped hilly districts will change. Bangladesh will open new avenues of trade with the northeastern states of India, including Tripura. Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, Chairman of the Bangladesh Land Ports Authority, told The New Nation on Saturday during a site inspection of the land port site in Ramgarh.
He said contractors have been given work order for the construction of various office and residential buildings including warehouses, sheds, ICPs, customs, police, BGB check posts and other necessary port facilities.
The construction work of the infrastructure will start as soon as the land development work is completed. The period for completion of this project worth Tk 100 crore is two years. However, the allocation for this project may increase further. The World Bank and the Government of Bangladesh will jointly bear the cost.
The chairman of the land port authority further said that they have come to inspect the area as part of the pre-preparation of the project. Asked how much Bangladesh would benefit from the launch of the Ramgarh-Sabroom land port, the chairman told The New Nation “I think India’s exports to Bangladesh will be higher.” However, more cement, bricks and plastics will be exported from here.
People from the greater Chittagong region and many from the northeastern states, including Tripura, will use the land port for travel. “The biggest thing is, connectivity will increase,” he said. Besides, if the land port is opened, trade and commerce will increase and small scale industries will be established here. It will create employment for the people.
Overall, there will be economic development of the people in the hilly areas.
