Bangladesh Railway on Thursday demolished the office Bangladesh Manobadhikar Bastabayan Sangstha (BMBS) near the railway hospital in the capital.
BNP’s former minister Barrister Nazmul Huda’s wife Advocate Sigma Huda is the chairman of the BMBS.
It is learnt that Advocate Sigma Huda has been carrying out her human rights activities occupying a precious piece of land of Bangladesh Railway illegally right in the heart of the capital Dhaka for a long time.
A mobile court led by executive magistrates Md Nazrul Islam and Mosharraf Hossain of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka supervised the demolition drive from 10:00am to 1:00pm.The executive magistrates said they launched the demolition drive at the directive of the Dhaka’s DC to recover the property of Bangladesh Railway. During the drive, a one-storeyed building was demolished.
Meanwhile, the BMBA said they got the allocation of the land from Bangladesh Railway in 2013. There was a clause in the agreement that notice would have to be served three months before if the Bangladesh Railway wanted to get back its land or the allottee wanted to handover it to Bangladesh Railway.
The BMBS executive director Md Jalal Uddin said they received a notice from the Bangladesh Railway on December 10 last. “They have evicted us only seven days after serving the notice. They have demolished our office violating the clauses of the agreement,” he said.
Jalal Uddin also claimed that they had to incur “huge losses.” “We’ll take legal action against them,” he said.
