Raids on to nab Shahed in Moulvibazar

Members of law enforcement agencies in Moulvibazar put on high alert following information that Regent Group owner Md Shahed may leave the country crossing the border.
Several check posts were set up on the Moulvibazar- Chatlapur road in Kulaura upazila and vehicles plying the road are being checked thoroughly since Monday evening.

Kumar Choudhury said: ” Acting on a tip-off, we came to know that Shahed may cross over to Tripura state in India at the Chatlapur border. So, we are checking vehicles.
Earlier in the morning, a Dhaka court issued arrest warrants against Md Shahed in connection with two cases filed over misappropriation of Tk 3.68 crore.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mainul Islam passed the order after Md Saifullah Masud, a proprietor of Masud Enterprise located in Karwan Bazar area, filed two separate cases with the court against Shahed over the allegation.
The court also asked the officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station to submit the execution order of the arrest warrant issued against Shahed by August 13.
In the first case, Saifullah told the court that Shahed bought Tk one crore worth of rods and cement from his shop between January 18, of 2018 till March 24 the same year.
Shahed then issued four cheques for Saifullah and asked him not to cash those without letting Shahed know first.
Later on June 25 this year, the complainant requested Shahed to clear his due, for which Shahed threatened him with dire consequences, said the case statement.
In the second case, the complainant supplied construction material worth Tk 2.68 crore to Shahed but he refused to pay the money.
Later, the complainant filed a general diary with Uttara Paschim Police Station on the same day.
Moreover, the complainant had filed a complaint to the home ministry on June 3 this year.
