The publishers on Tuesday urged the government not to place the Education Law-2016 (draft) in the Parliament for passing.
Bangladesh Book Publishers and Sellers Association (BAPUS) raised the demand at a discussion held in its central office in the city.
BAPUS President Md Arif Hossain Liton presided over the meeting, while Vice-Presidents Md Salauddin, Alamgir Mallik, Kazi Zahurul Islam Bulbul, Md Shariful Alam and Kazi Shah Alam, Directors Osman Gani,
Amirul Islam, Md Khasru, Anowarul Islam Swapon, Khan Mahabub, Tajul Islam, BM Nizam Uddin and Khalilur Rahman were present at the meeting, among others.
Arif Hossain Liton said that the draft law would affect the publication industry.
He said, the proposed law bans all kinds of notebooks, even the books related to the primary, secondary and higher secondary education.
“About 25 lakh people are working with the publishing business. They will be in distress if the law is passed. So the government should rethink about the Education Law-2016,” he said.
