Staff Reporter: Rape incident of a student of Dhaka University spark protest in the university. Students blocked Shahbagh intersection on Monday afternoon protesting the incidents allegedly happened inlast night at Kurmitola area in the capital.
Santrash Birodhi Chhatra Oikya, the alliance of 12 student organisations formed recently, leads the blocking.
Several hundred students of the alliance gathered bedside Raju Sculpture on the campus around 11:00am and brought out a procession, chanted different slogans demanding immediate arrest of the and punishmentof the culprit.
The students blocked the Shahbagh intersection at 12:15pm.
They halting traffic movement on the areas roads.
Meanwhile, around 10:45am, nearly 500-600 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League formed a human chain programme in front of Raju Sculpture.
Leaders and activists of Jatiatabadi Chhatra Dal was also staging protest at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla on the university campus around 12:00pm.
After hearing the rape incident in the midnight, the students took to the university campus and announced the protest programme.
Sources said, a second-year student of Dhaka University was allegedly raped and tortured inlast night at Kurmitola area.
Getting information, other students brought her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around midnight.
Victims friends said quoting her that she was grabbed by miscreant while walking from Kurmitola bus stop to a friend’s house in a nearby area around 7:30pm after getting down from the university bus there.
The miscreant gagged her and took her to an isolated place nearby. She was fainted after being raped and tortured there.
After regain sence, she called her friends who rescued her and brought her to the DMCH.
