Protest rally of fruit traders held

The fruit traders of the wholesale fruit in the port city staged demonstration followed by rally in front of Station Road Fruit Market yesterday morning protesting the extortions and attack on fruit traders failing to pay tolls to them by the terrorists on Friday night.
Two ruling party councilor expressed solidarity to the protests of the fruit traders. The traders in the rally alleged two terror groups allegedly involved with the extortions side by side police was also blamed.
The protest rally stayed for two hours yesterday closing all shops of the fruit market and they also protested the extortions on Friday night for half an hour with blockade of road.
About 250 fruit shops were closed during the demonstration period and thousand of fruit traders , employees and workers joined the rally, sources said.
President of Fruit Merchants Association Abdul Malek , ward councilor Tarek Selim, councilor Salimullah Bachchu , General Secretary of Association Md. Alamgir,vice president Ali Abbas Khan, joint secretary Towhidul Alam, former general secretary Nazimuddin, fruit traders Jafar Ahmed and Shahidul alam spoke on theoccasion.Therulig party ward councilors said the reputation and image of the present govt is being jeopardized by the ill deeds of the party men which is not at all acceptable. They asked the police authority to apprehend these extortionists within one week with exemplary punishment otherwise they will launch movement taking the fruit traders .
Fruit traders sources said they will form human chain in frontof the market today at 2 pm to protest the extortions by extortionists in the name of Edu Bahini and Faisal Bahini belong to Chhatra League politics, sources said.
