Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Sunday expressed doubt about the proper treatment of its imprisoned chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia by the government medical board.
“We think that our party chief (Khaleda Zia) would not be properly treated by the pro-ruling party doctors. We cannot trust this board. We find no logic to be happy with the medical board,” said BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain while addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
He said, “We again demand to form a new medical board, including our chairperson’s personal physicians, so that proper treatment is at sight.”
“Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal had promised to our party delegation on September 9 that Khaleda Zia’s personal physicians would be in the medical board. But we are astonished to see the medical board formed with pro-government physicians only.”
Apart from this, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said, how does the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina criticise the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s recent visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York?
“The UN has invited our party secretary general. But the PM said ‘UN has not invited him and it is his own visit’. Her speech exposes her frustration,” the BNP leader said.
“Our secretary general has gone to the UN and the US state department in Washington. Any way it has hurt the prime minister. So, she is making such statements,” Mosharraf said replying to a query.
Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice-Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi were present at the press conference.
