UNB, Dhakam :
The government will formally launch a training programme today, aiming to develop 30,000 IT professionals for the IT and ITES sectors within the next three years. Ministers, vice chancellors, academicians, bureaucrats and IT industry leaders will be present at the launching ceremony to be held at Sonargaon hotel.
“The government has appointed a reputed international firm (EY) to ensure quality training to meet the demand of skilled manpower for the IT industry and boost the country’s ICT export,” said State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
He also said the trained youngsters would help Bangladesh achieve its target of $1 billion export earnings from the ICT sector within five years.
The World Bank-funded ‘Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance Project’ (LICT) of Bangladesh Compute Council (BCC) has appointed EY to impart Top-UP IT training to 10,000 IT & Science graduates and ITES foundation skills training to 20,000 HSC/graduates.
EY has committed to providing jobs both at home and abroad to 6,000 (60pc) IT and science graduates from among the 10,000 Top Up IT Training receivers.
“EY will be partnering with US-based Info Pro Learning, which is amongst the largest IT training companies in the world. We’ll also be working closely with leading universities in Europe and the US to provide quality training and employability-linked skill development,” Partner, Performance Improvement of EY, Anurag Malik said. The World Bank is providing US $70 million to LICT project with an aim to catalyse the growth of Bangladesh’s IT/ITES industry and create employment.
The initiative targets to develop skilled manpower for IT and ITES sectors and assist in export diversification. The project was launched in February 2013 for implementation within five years.
