Pro-BNP lawyers on Monday boycotted the court proceedings across the country demanding that the 16th amendment to the constitution be repealed.Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum brought out a protest procession with black flags from Supreme Court Bar Bhaban in the morning.The court boycott was observed as part of a two-day protest programme announced by Bangladesh Bar Council on Saturday. The lawyers loyal to BNP and Jamaat demonstrated across the country on Sunday to press home their demand.Supreme Court Bar Association secretary barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon, also a BNP joint secretary general, said 81 bar associations across the country observed the court boycott programme.On September 17, Parliament unanimously passed the ‘Constitution (16th Amendment) Bill, 2014’, paving the path for establishing its power to remove Supreme Court judges.On Monday, President Abdul Hamid assented to the bill, turning it into law.
