Folklore of our country

word ‘Folklore’ is derived from ‘folk’ which means rural culture and literature. It refers to songs, tales and riddles etc of a race. Our folk songs have got its reputation throughout the world community by virtue of its quality and standard.
Folklore is the part of literature. And literature is in a sense, the mirror of the society. It expresses the culture and heritage of a society and nation. It contains the distinguishing features of a race. Manners and behaviours, customs and costumes, the wedding ceremony, ritual and funeral rites etc are reflected in literature. Folklore is therefore the main element of ethnological tradition of a country because ethnology and folklore are inseparable part of literature.
Culture and heritage unfolds human behaviors acquired through experience. According to anthropology, every man has a culture of his own.
One becomes an individual of culture by dint of one’s personal efforts. On the other hand archaeology is to find out the study of ancient matters of a bygone age.
Our days in the society were passing in a happy and peaceful environment. But this day, we are in a tense moment. In the past, people were in harmony. Folk songs, jatra, baul-song and other social and cultural programmes were the main amusement and attraction of our people. But these simple enthusiastic and attractive programmes are far beyond our expectation. Jatrapala, Krishnalila, Jarigan, Kobigaan, etc were the recreational and entertaining display for the rural people of our country. These were the traditional programmes held everywhere in our land. Boishakhi Mela, Ashtomi Snan (ritual bath), Bull fight, Dual fight, etc are never to be forgotten. n -Md Maiz Uddin
But alas! Many of the traditional events have already been out sighted. In the winter night we used to enjoy Jatrapala in the opera ignoring biting cold. Such cultural entertaining events are fading away which should be revived again.
