Pro-AL panel sweeps CUTA polls

The Awami League- backed yellow panel has swept the Chittagong University Teachers’ Association (CUTA) election, held at the varsity premises on Saturday, winning all the 11 posts of the executive committee for a year while pro-BNP and Zamat teachers’ association’s white panel faced a humiliating defeat.
Chief Election Commissioner Prof Mohammad Mahiudiin announced the result at around 8.00 pm after a peach full election while BNP and Zamat backed white panel bagged nil.
Election commission sources said the voting set in from 9.30 am and continued till 1.30 pm with a peach full manner. Some seven hundred 26 teachers of those 254 teachers cast their votes in two phases out of 866, exercised their franchise to choose their leaders.
Professor Abul Mansur, teacher of Microbiology department from yellow panel was elected president trouncing his nearby contester Professor Soukutul Meher from white panel by 208 votes while Dr Qazi S M Kasrul Alam Kuddusi as a general secretary, defeating another pro-BNP panel racer Mohammad Saiful Islam by 245 votes.
Samol Ranjon Chakrabartee of Physic, Prof Mohammad Hanif Siddiki of Computer science and Engineering and Mohammad Ohidul Alam of Marine science and Fisheries department from yellow panel has been elected as vice president, treasurer, and joint secretary post respectively.
The other elected members are-Arup Barua of Pauli, Mohamad Kamrul Huda of Botany, Forid Uddin Ahamed of Anthrophology ,SojeebKumar Gosh of Marketing, Suptikona Majumder of Sanskritee and Sahidur Rahman of Management.
Concerned sources said, the humiliating defeat from the white panel took place as the current vice-chancellor appointed over three hundred teachers during his office.
Mohammad Abul Mansur told the journalists that he would work for the interest of the teachers and the student while the BNP backed teachers congratulated them. Election commission Mohammad Mahiuddin thanked all for the peach full election.
