Printmaking workshop at Gallery Atelier 71

A six-day printmaking (Etching/Intaglio) workshop titled ‘Nature Quest’ began at Cosmos Atelier 71, Cosmos Centre in the city’s Malibagh area on Friday jointly organised by Dhaka Cosmos Atelier 71 Printmaking Studio and Gallery Cosmos.
Renowned artist Rokeya Sultana, Professor of the Department of Printmaking, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka and artist Uttam Kumar Bashak, Professor of the Visva-Bharati University of India are conducting the etching/Intaglio workshop.
Twelve noted and emerging artists from all over the country are participating in this etching/Intaglio workshop, consisting of artists Rashid Amin, Anisuzzaman Anis, Nagarbasi Barman, Ashraful Hossain, SujitSarker, Boni Adam, PalashBaranBishwash, Farzana Rahman Boby, Sourav Chowdhury, Nadia Yeasmin, Juton Chandra Roy and SM Ehsan.
The studio also intends to publish a portfolio with selected artworks of every participant derived from the workshop. Eminent artist Shahid Kabir, artist Biren Shome and Tehmina Enayet, Director of Gallery Cosmos were also present at the workshop.
The workshop will be on etching/intaglio technique of printmaking.
 Etching/Intaglio is traditionally the process of using strong acid or mordant to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio (incised) in the metal.
In modern manufacturing, other chemicals maybe used on other types of material. As a method of printmaking, it is, along with engraving, the most important technique for old master prints, and remains in wide use today. The workshop will continue till November 8 from 10:00am to 5:00pm daily.
