BNP leaders’ house in Barisal raided by cops

Barisal Metropolitan Police raided the houses of Advocate Mojibor Rahman Sarwar, lawmaker and city BNP president, Mezbahuddin Farhad, lawmaker and district (north) BNP president, Abul Hasan Limon, convener, Afroza Khanam Nasrin, joint convener of city JCD on early Saturday.From the house of Mezbahuddin Farhad, police arrested Dewan Md. Shahidul Huq, Hizla upazila BNP president and Altaf Hossain, Jubo Dal activist.Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station in charge, claimed the drive was operated and the BNP leader and activist were arrested on basis of the information about holding conspiracy meeting for sabotage at the house of the BNP lawmaker for Barisal-4(Hizla-Mehendiganj) Mezbahuddin Farhad.
Woman killed in train crash in Sirajganj
SIRAJGANJ: A women was killed in a train accident near Jamtoli railway station in Kamarkanda upazila on Tuesday evening. The victim was identified as Monowara Begum, 40, wife of Akter of Chala area in the upazila.Haidar Ali, sub-inspector of Sirajganj Government Railway Police, said Dhaka-bound intercity train ‘Nilsagar’ from Nilphamari knocked down Monowara while she was crossing the tracks around 4.45 pm, leaving her dead on the spot. Being informed, railway police recovered the body and, upon request, handed over it to the deceased’s relatives without any post-mortem examination, reports UNB.
Two killed in road mishap in Chapainawabganj

Two persons were killed in a road mishap near Chapainawabganj Police lines under Chapainawabganj municipality on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Tahera Begum, 35, wife of Israfil of Nayagola Satnoil under Chapainawabganj municipality and driver of the autorickshaw Futu, 28, son of Rustam Ali of Bhatotola village under Baliadanga union of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj sadar thana Jasim Uddin said, the accident occurred as a sand laden tractor losing control over the steering wheel hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw killing the two on the spot at around 1-30 pm. Being informed police rushed to the spot, recovered the dead bodies and sent them to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
20 BNP-Jamaat men held in Joypurhat
JOYPURHAT: Joint forces in separate drives arrested 20 activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir on various charges from different places of five upazilas of the district during the last 48 hours till yesterday. They were held on charges of involvement in vandalism and subversive activities during the recent hartal and blockade programmes of the 18-party opposition alliance, police sources said. Police super Hamidul Alom said a team of the joint forces, comprising members of police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh, conducted the drives in Panchbibi, Khetlal, Kalai, Akkelpur and Sadar upazilas of the district and arrested them. Among the arrestees were five BNP, 10 Jamaat and five Shibir activists, reports BSS.
3 smugglers held with 100 sacks of wheat in Bagerhat

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive arrested three smugglers along with 100 sacks of wheat in Nala area of the Mongla River on Wednesday. Identify of the arrestees could not be known yet. Lieutenant Commander M Mohiuddin Majumdar, staff officer (Operation) at Bangladesh Coast Guard (West Zone-Mongla) said they had secret information that a group of smugglers along with smuggled wheat was going to Rampal upazila on a trawler and a team of Coast Guard conducted a drive in Nala area of the river in the afternoon and seized the trawler.
7 held over Bahubal auto driver murder case
HABIGANJ: Police arrested seven people from different places of Moulvibazar district town on Wednesday in connection with the killing of an auto-rickshaw driver in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj district. The arrestees were identified as Sohel,27, Abdul Kalam,32, and Abdul Matin, 26, of Lamaru village in Nabiganj upazila; Shahjahan,22, and Firoz Mia, 22, of Dughar village of Moulvibazaar, Ayez Mia, 22, of Uttar Moddhyhati village and Tito Ahmed Jewel, 23 of Baraiuri village. Moulvibazaar police, based on information from Bahubal police, conducted a drive in the town and arrested the seven and recovered the auto-rickshaw of the slain driver.
Later, the arrested were handed over to Bahubal Police Station in the evening. Sub-inspector Mujibur Rahman, investigation officer of the case, said two of the arrestees confessed to police that they had killed auto-rickshaw driver Siraj Miah over previous enmity.
