Soumya Sarker and Mosaddek Hossain’s individual centuries spurred Prime Bank South Zone to clinch the second consecutive Bangladesh Cricket League title after playing draw against Islami Bank East Zone in the third edition final round match on the fourth and final day at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Wednesday.
Newly elected Chittagong City Corporation mayor and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) vice president AJM Nasir Uddin handed over prize money of Tk 20 lakh to the champion team as the chief guest while runner-up team received Tk 10 lakh and Mosaddek Hossain received Tk 25,000 as man of the match.
In the all play all system four-day match, South Zone earned 46 points from three matches with one win and two draws involving 3.175 net run rate to be crowned while East Zone finished second bagging 39 points also with one win and two draws with less 0.661 net runs rate.
Meanwhile, Walton Central Zone finished third in the four-team fray, coming from behind beating BCB North Zone by 80 runs in the other match also on day four at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Walton Central Zone bagged 33 points with one win, one draw and one loss with -3.923 net run rate while fourth place finisher BCB North Zone tasted one draw and two losses to secure 18 points with 0.087 net run rate.
Prime Bank South Zone vs Islami Bank East Zone
In the day’s play, Prime Bank South Zone (385 runs in the first innings) resumed the second innings with an advantage of 369 runs lead, including overnight 231 runs for 4 in 54 overs, and raised the lead margin to 590 runs scoring 452 runs for 9 in 107.2 overs, spurred by the centurions as well as overnight fifth wicket stand of 176 runs in 35.4 overs between Soumya and Mosaddek.
Soumya’s century of 127 runs came off 165 balls involving 15 fours and three sixes while Mosaddek hit his century scoring 119 runs off 183 balls with eight fours and five sixes.
Nurul Hasan (34), Shohag Gazi (not out 29) and number nine Mostafizur Rahman (14) were the other double digit scorers for the side while skipper Abdur Razzak was absent for his 11th position on the day.
Abul Hasan grabbed three wickets for economic 26 runs while Abu Jayed and Nazmul Apu took two wickets conceding 77 and 87 runs respectively in the second innings. Mominul Haque and Alok Kapali took one wicket apiece for 49 and 59 runs respectively.
Islami Bank East Zone (247 runs in the first innings) opened the second innings on the fourth day and scored 166 runs for 3 in 34 overs riding on a third wicket stand of 120 runs in 24.4 overs between Liton Kuamar and skipper Alok Kapali.
Opener Liton scored team highest 74 runs off 92 balls featuring 10 fours and one six while Alok Kapali hit unbeaten 55 runs 82 balls with six fours.
Shadman Islam scored 29 runs for the side. The fourth wicket pair between Alok Kapali and Asif Ahmed (not out 1) was batting when the bails were drawn for the final day.
Al Amin Hossain grabbed all three wickets of the day for 43 runs for the side on the day.

Trailing by 191 runs in the second innings against Walton Central Zone, BCB North Zone (287 runs in the first innings) resumed the second innings on the fourth day with overnight score of 11 runs for 2 wicket in 2 overs and finished the innings at 122 runs for all in 40.4 overs.
Overnight batsman Mahmudul Hasan scored 34 runs while number seven Sabbir Rumman (32), overnight Taijul Islam (20), Forhad Hossain (11) and Ariful Haque (10) were the double digit scorers for the side in the second innings on the final day.
Shuvagata Hom captured four wickets for 35 runs while Mosharraf Hossain and Shohid grabbed three wickets each conceding 27 and 32 runs respectively in the innings.
